Biography

Michael Joiner is a Professor and Director of the Radiation Biology Program in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He has an extensive background in radiobiology and has designed and taught courses on the subject. His leadership includes teaching students in the Graduate Program and Residency Program and directing international courses in radiobiology. Joiner's previous appointments include Research Scientist positions at the CRC Gray Laboratory in the UK. He has published numerous papers investigating various aspects of medical physics, particularly in relation to radiation therapy and biological responses to radiation. His research interests include the molecular basis of clinical radiation resistance, the study of cancer stem cells, and the enhancement of radiation therapy using soy isoflavones. Joiner has received multiple awards for his contributions to education and research, including distinguished service accolades and honorary professor appointments at various institutions. He is actively engaged in guiding Master's thesis students in the medical physics program and focuses on clinically applicable outcomes in radiation treatment planning.
