Dr. Johann Eberhart

Professor

Biography

Johann K. Eberhart is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on the genetics and environmental influence on cellular mechanisms underlying craniofacial neuronal development. The Eberhart lab employs a zebrafish model organism to investigate how various cellular processes integrate during development, with a particular emphasis on understanding the causes of human birth defects. The lab utilizes a variety of techniques in genetics and molecular biology, including live imaging of embryos, to explore these developmental processes. Eberhart is involved in interdisciplinary life sciences graduate programs, emphasizing the importance of precise control over cellular processes such as cell movement, signaling, and differentiation. His work is crucial in advancing the understanding of developmental biology and the genetic factors that contribute to substance use disorders as well as other developmental issues.
