Dr. Aashish Jha

Biography

Aashish Jha is an Assistant Professor of Biology at New York University Abu Dhabi. He uses genomics to decipher human population histories and microbiomes, focusing on traditional Himalayan populations. His research projects include studies on genomics and microbiomics in Nepal, India, Africa, and Oceania. He obtained his BA in Molecular Cellular Biology from the University of California Berkeley and his PhD in Human Genetics from The University of Chicago. He has received postdoctoral training at Stanford University, where he initiated the Himalayan Diversity Project to study the genetics and microbiome of Himalayan populations. His research is supported by grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Stanford University Center for Computational, Evolutionary, and Human Genomics. Jha has published over two dozen peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals and actively engages in consultancy as the Director of Bioinformatics at NomNomNow, a pet nutrition and health company. He joined NYUAD in 2020 and has been involved in a variety of teaching capacities, aiming to inspire students in the interdisciplinary field of bioinformatics.
