Professor

Biography

Jon M. Huibregtse is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, where he also serves as the Director of the Institute for Cellular and Molecular Biology since September 2016. With a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from the University of Michigan obtained in 1989, he has had a distinguished career, including positions as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Cancer Institute and faculty roles at Harvard Medical School and Rutgers University. His research primarily focuses on the mechanisms of the ubiquitin proteolysis system and its implications in innate immune responses to viral and microbial infections. His lab investigates ISG15, a ubiquitin-like modifier, particularly its role in anti-viral activity and its signaling in immune response. In addition to discovering the biological functions of ISG15, he examines the ubiquitin system's contributions to protein quality control.
