Biography

Melissa Harris makes clients unforgettable. As the CEO and founder of the marketing firm M. Harris & Co., she has successfully grown the company to a $4.5 million annual revenue. The firm specializes in science communications, particularly in the fields of climate, public health, and advanced technology, assisting prominent clients such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, Purdue University, and Rolls-Royce in conveying intricate scientific and technological concepts to the public. Her book, 'Everybody Needs an Editor', published by Simon & Schuster and co-authored with Jenn Bane, has been recognized as one of the Top 40 business books and one of the Top 5 marketing/communications books for 2024 by Porchlight Book Company, and it is long-listed for the Non-Obvious Book Award. Alongside Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Mary Schmich, Melissa co-founded Mary & Melissa Productions, which produced a seven-part podcast series titled 'Division Street Revisited', distributed by PRX and aired by Chicago’s WBEZ and New York’s WNYC. Melissa has a background in journalism, with a career spanning 15 years as a business columnist for the Chicago Tribune. After transitioning from journalism, she earned her MBA while working as the vice president of marketing at a private equity firm, where she helped raise over $70 million to launch an online investing platform. Melissa holds degrees from the University of Chicago (MBA), Johns Hopkins University (MA in Government), and Northwestern University (BS in Journalism).
