John Makaran received his B.E.Sc. in electrical engineering (1987), M.E.Sc. in mechanical engineering (1990), and Ph.D. in electrical engineering (2002) from the University of Western Ontario. In a career spanning over 30 years, he has worked for 3M Canada Ltd., Husky Injection Molding Systems, Siemens VDO Automotive Inc., Fanshawe College, and General Dynamics Land Systems Canada. His professional endeavors include product and process development, validation, and managing supplier quality issues. He was responsible for the electronics design of the world's first brushless motor used in automotive engine cooling applications. Makaran has taught at both college and university levels, including positions at Western University and the University of Toronto's M.Eng. program. Additionally, he has served as a consultant and expert witness in automotive sector-related issues.
