Biography

Lucy Simko is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at Barnard College, Columbia University. After earning her PhD in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Washington in 2022, where she was advised by Yoshi Kohno, she served as a postdoctoral research scientist at George Washington University. Her research interests lie in the intersection of usable security and privacy, focusing on building systems that are both secure and user-friendly. She has been involved in interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers such as Adam Aviv and Yasemin Acar. At Barnard, she is currently looking for motivated undergraduate and master's students for research projects and is involved in teaching courses such as Building Usable Security. Lucy actively publishes her research, with recent works presented at significant conferences including ACM SIGCHI, USENIX Security, and ACM CCS, where she explores topics related to security usability, online proctoring, and the integration of biometric voter verification in challenging political contexts. She is committed to fostering an inclusive research environment and encourages interested students to reach out.
