Biography

Juliette Tolay is an associate professor of Political Science at Penn State University, Harrisburg. Her research focuses on migration and forced migration, foreign policy, and Eurocentrism, particularly in the context of Europe, Turkey, and the Middle East. She has published works including 'Inadvertent Reproduction of Eurocentrism in International Relations: A Critique' in Review of International Studies (2021) and 'Interrogating the Broadening Narratives of Migration Diplomacy: A Critical Assessment' in Millennium (2023). Currently, she is involved in projects addressing Venezuelan displacement, imperial legacies in migration politics, and the media's discourse on migration. Her work appears in academic journals such as International Migration, Review of International Studies, Ethnopolitics, and Les Études du CERI, alongside various edited volumes. Tolay co-authored 'Turkey's Neighbors: The Foreign Relations Transition' published by Lynne Rienner (2012) and has contributed chapters on Turkish foreign policy and migration policies concerning Syrian refugees. Additionally, her research has been featured in outlets like The Conversation, Huffington Post, and Open Democracy. Tolay was a fellow at the Transatlantic Academy of the German Marshall Fund during 2009-2010.
