Biography

Gupta's published research received recognitions. A 2021 paper published in Journal of Marketing Research received the Paul E. Green Award from the American Marketing Association (AMA), an annual award recognizing articles that demonstrate the greatest potential to contribute to the theory, methods, and practice of marketing. His papers have previously received the AMA-EBSCO Award for Responsible Research in Marketing (2020), the O'Dell Award (2008), and the Paul E. Green Award (2003). Gupta served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Marketing Research from 2020 to 2023 and as a co-editor from 2016 to 2020. From 2014 to 2018, he was the director of Cornell's PhD Program in Management. Between 2010 and 2013, he was the associate dean of academic affairs at Johnson, responsible for faculty recruitment and development and the school's research function. In 2009, he received the Stephen Russell Distinguished Teaching Award, and in 2007, he was selected by the graduating MBA class to receive the Apple Award for Teaching Excellence. Gupta has previously taught at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, where he received the Sidney Levy Award for teaching excellence and was recognized on the dean's four-star list multiple times. He serves on the board of directors of the Aravind Eye Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps the Aravind Eye Care System to spread a sustainable model of high-quality, patient-centric eye care in rural populations of India and other developing countries.
