Ian Bourg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University and serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies. His research focuses on the fundamental properties of water interfaces and their impact on environmental systems. Current projects are centered around the effects of clay minerals on hydrology, the mechanics of sedimentary media, and the role of mineral-organic interactions in contaminant fate and transport as well as soil carbon storage. Bourg holds concurrent appointments as Associated Faculty in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the High Meadows Environmental Institute, as well as the Princeton Institute for Science and Technology of Materials (PRISM). He has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the NSF CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation in 2018. Bourg's educational background includes a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and two degrees in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Toulouse, France.
