Anyi Mazo-Vargas leads the Mazo Vargas Lab, focusing on Evo-Devo patterns and shapes in various animal species, including butterflies and moths. The lab is dedicated to exploring the genetic changes that drive the development of diverse morphological traits. By utilizing genome sequencing technology, the lab aims to uncover the genetic building blocks behind adaptive traits in nature. Key research questions include how genetic alterations influence the shaping of developmental traits and what novel patterns evolve as a result. This work combines elements of functional genetics, genomics, and developmental biology to unravel the mysteries of how adaptive traits develop and evolve over time.
