Biography

Roland Baron is a Professor at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, specializing in Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity. He holds a DDS PhD in oral biology from the University of Paris. Baron joined the Yale University School of Medicine in 1975 and became a tenured full professor. In 2008, he was appointed chair of the Department of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity at Harvard. He has served as president of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and has held executive positions at Hoechst Marion Roussel and Aventis, as well as founded ProSkelia, where he served as president and chief scientific officer. Baron has published over 250 scientific papers on bone cell molecular biology and has received numerous awards, including the Thesis Prize in 1972, the MERIT Award in 1993, and the Louis V. Avioli Founders Award in 2002. His research focuses on bone biology and the development of therapies for conditions such as bone loss, arthritis, and osteoporosis, with a particular emphasis on signal transduction in skeletal development and remodeling.
