Dr. Maher Azzouz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Computer Engineering at the University of Windsor. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in 2016, where his research focused on power-electronic converters and their applications in renewable energy systems. His master’s and bachelor’s degrees were completed at Cairo University in 2011 and 2008, respectively. Dr. Azzouz’s research interests include modeling, analysis, and control of power-electronic converters, grid integration of wind and solar farms, operation planning of distribution networks with renewable energy sources, protective relaying, cyber security in modern power systems, power flow studies, energy management, and the integration of hybrid AC/DC microgrids. He is a Professional Engineer registered with Professional Engineers Ontario and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, contributing to several IEEE societies. Dr. Azzouz has received multiple awards for his excellence in research and teaching, including the Medal of Excellence Award from IEEE for Early Career Faculty in 2021. He has published numerous papers across various platforms, demonstrating his significant contributions to the field of electrical engineering. His scholarly work has greatly impacted the understanding and development of smart microgrid technologies, enhancing the resilience and efficiency of future energy systems.
