Yıldız Atasoy is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Simon Fraser University, where she joined in 2002. She earned her PhD in Sociology from the University of Toronto in 1998. Prior to her current position, Atasoy held posts at various universities, including the University of Michigan-Flint and the University of Manitoba. Her research focuses on the political economy of the agrifood systems, state restructuring, and the dynamics of social change, specifically in relation to transnational processes and Islamic politics. Atasoy engages with a diverse range of data sources, from government documents to ethnographies. She has published extensively in leading academic journals and co-edited several books. Her current work examines conservation policy and its implications for indigenous farmers in Kenya, as well as the political economy of food in Turkey and Brazil. Atasoy's interdisciplinary approach incorporates insights from political science, economics, international relations, cultural studies, and history, contributing significantly to the fields of political sociology and global political economy.
