Said I. Abdel-Khalik is a Professor Emeritus at the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1973 after obtaining his M.Sc. from the same institution in 1971 and his B.Sc. from Alexandria University, Egypt in 1967. He joined Georgia Tech in 1987 as a Georgia Power Distinguished Professor and later served as the Southern Nuclear Distinguished Professor. Throughout his career, Abdel-Khalik has held several notable positions, including Associate Director of the Woodruff School and member of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards. His research interests span Nuclear Engineering, Fusion Technology, and Heat Transfer Energy Systems, significantly impacting the fields of reactor safety and thermal-hydraulics. He has supervised 110 graduate theses and authored around 400 publications in leading journals. His contributions have been acknowledged with numerous awards, including Fellow distinctions from both the American Nuclear Society and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Abdel-Khalik has also served on multiple advisory boards and committees.
