Biography

Haim Weizman is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego. His research interests encompass chemical education, focusing on improving organic chemistry instruction at the college level. He aims to address the challenges that undergraduate students face when learning organic chemistry, which often serves as a barrier for them pursuing natural sciences. To enhance learning, he is developing internet-based interactive tools and comprehensive labs that align with modern organic chemistry principles, including green chemistry. His bioorganic chemistry research utilizes organic chemistry methodologies to explore biological systems, involving projects such as the synthesis of fluorescent nucleotide analogs and RNA binders. He is also committed to outreach activities like BioBridge, which aims to enhance science education for schools with a high percentage of underrepresented students.
