Alexa Trusiak is a Visiting Research Professor and research scientist at Environment Climate Change Canada, co-located in the Biology Department of the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. Her research focuses on the development and application of integrated assessment approaches to diagnose the effects of multiple stressors on aquatic ecosystems. Trusiak investigates the combined effects of interacting natural and anthropogenic gradients on the ecological structure and function of riverine ecosystems across multiple spatial and temporal scales. She has contributed to important research in areas where current environmental guidelines are inadequate, particularly regarding thresholds for environmental sustainability. Trusiak has co-authored numerous publications, enhancing understanding of the effects of industrial activities on aquatic health and water quality dynamics in sensitive regions, particularly in relation to Canada’s oil sands.
