Joanna Kountanis, MD, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Kountanis has dedicated her career to advancing the field of obstetric anesthesia and improving patient outcomes. She completed her medical degree at Wayne State University in 2004 and a Bachelor of Science at the University of Michigan in 2000. Her research interests focus on the development of algorithms for managing unanticipated difficult intubations during obstetric procedures and the implications of glucocorticoids on birth trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder. Dr. Kountanis has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and serves as a section editor for A&A Practice.
