Professor Regan Schmidt is the Chartered Professional Accountants Chair in Accounting at the University of Saskatchewan, where he has been a faculty member since 2009. He earned his Ph.D. in Accounting from Queen’s University and has practiced public accounting in Western Canada. His research has been recognized by the American Accounting Association and the Canadian Public Accountability Board for its contribution to auditing knowledge and improving audit quality. Schmidt's work has received substantial funding from the federal government and various industry organizations. His research areas include audit quality enhancement, governance, and financial reporting, utilizing experimental methods. He has published in prominent journals such as Accounting Public Interest and Harvard Business Review, contributing to discussions on institutional factors affecting auditor behavior and quality in financial reporting. Besides his academic career, Schmidt actively serves as an Associate Editor for several journals and is involved with local organizations and committees. He has received the title of Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant for his contributions to the accounting profession and community engagement.
