Dr. Michael Jackson

Professor

Biography

Michael Jackson is a distinguished scientist and professor in the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. He serves as the principal investigator at the PrairieNeuro Research Centre within the Kleysen Institute for Advanced Medicine. His research emphasizes understanding the role of calcium-permeable channels in processes such as calcium dysregulation, inflammation, and impaired synaptic transmission related to neurodegenerative disorders like stroke and Alzheimer's disease. Jackson completed his PhD in pharmacology and therapeutics at McGill University in 1998 and subsequently pursued postdoctoral training in physiology at the University of Toronto. He held positions at the Robarts Research Institute at Western University as a research scientist and assistant professor, specializing in the influences of calcium channels in neuroscience. Jackson has published numerous articles in leading scientific journals, gaining international recognition as an expert in his field. His work has significantly advanced the understanding of the physiological and pathological roles of TRPM2 and Pannexin channels in neuronal signaling.
