Professor Jennifer Carter-Johnson focuses her interests on intellectual property law, food and drug regulation, and bioethics. She combines her scientific legal training to investigate issues at the intersection of biological research and law. Professor Carter-Johnson joined Michigan State University College of Law in fall 2010. Prior to joining MSU, she was a visiting faculty fellow at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri, and practiced law in Seattle, Washington, specializing in intellectual property licensing for biotechnology companies. At MSU College of Law, she has served in various roles, including Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and faculty lead for the development of the MSU Ethics Institute. Additionally, she serves as Co-Associate Director of the Intellectual Property, Information, and Communications program and mentors law students through coaching moot court teams. Jennifer has graduated with the highest honors from Union University with a B.S. in Mathematics and Biology, earned her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Virginia, and received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was an articles editor and symposium coordinator for the Michigan Law Review. She is a member of the Michigan State Bar and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
