Biography

Charity Fort joins Michigan State University College of Law as an Assistant Professor. She previously served as a clinical supervisor at Georgetown University Law Center's Social Enterprise Nonprofit Law Clinic, where she earned her LLM. Professor Fort has taught ethics as an adjunct professor at Columbia Law School. Before entering academia, she practiced finance law for several years, which ignited her passion for studying ethics in transactional law and mentoring incoming legal professionals. She is admitted to the bar in New York, Illinois, Washington D.C., and Iowa. Her teaching includes courses such as Professional Responsibility, which is designed to acquaint law students with the obligations owed by lawyers both to their clients and to society. In this course, ethical challenges encountered in legal practice are discussed alongside an overview of the phases of the profession, disciplinary proceedings, and the functions of bar organizations regarding unauthorized practice. Additionally, students may take the course on Lawyer Regulation and Ethics in a Technology-Driven World.
