Dr. Scott Emr

Professor

Biography

Scott Emr is the Professor of Biochemistry at Weill Cornell Medical College. He has an extensive background in cell biology, specializing in the study of endocytosis, membrane trafficking, and the molecular mechanisms involved in vesicle formation and sorting. His early work contributed significantly to the understanding of the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) pathway, revealing how proteins are sorted for degradation within the cell. Emr has published numerous academic articles exploring various aspects of cell function, such as the regulation of membrane protein quality control by ubiquitin ligases, which play critical roles in maintaining cellular homeostasis. His research has also focused on phosphoinositide signaling pathways and the intricacies of organelle communication. Emr's investigations and publications span across topics concerning lipid homeostasis, membrane protein recycling, and the intricate dynamics of membrane contact sites, further establishing his reputation in the field of molecular and cellular biology.
