Meilin Liu is a Regents' Professor and the Hightower Chair in the School of Materials Science and Engineering. She specializes in the design, fabrication, and characterisation of materials for energy storage and conversion, particularly focusing on electrolyte, electrode, and catalyst materials. Liu's research encompasses understanding how structure, composition, and morphology affect the electrical and chemical properties of materials, particularly in relation to charge and mass transfer on surfaces and interfaces. Her innovative approaches aim to improve the efficiency and reduce the costs of chemical energy transformation processes. Liu has published extensively, with over 680 refereed papers and has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher. She holds 33 patents and has co-founded the battery technology company PolyPlus Battery.
