Emily Panza is an Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a Research Scientist at The Miriam Hospital. Her research centers on marginalized communities and investigates the impact of social determinants of health on cardiovascular risk behaviors and well-being in adults, particularly those facing obesity and belonging to sexual and gender minority communities, including individuals living with HIV. Dr. Panza focuses on innovative weight loss treatments including GLP-1 RA medications, and her work emphasizes understanding and addressing health disparities through community-informed approaches. She has received funding from various national institutes for her research aimed at improving cultural relevance and efficacy in treating high body weight and cardiometabolic disease within marginalized populations. Dr. Panza completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Rutgers University in 2018 and has participated in various postdoctoral training programs related to cardiovascular behavioral medicine. Additionally, she is a licensed clinical psychologist in Rhode Island.
