Biography

Frank Attenello, MD, MS, is an Associate Professor at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, specializing in Neurological Surgery and Cancer Biology. He holds the Sloan Family Endowed Professorship and has a distinguished career focusing on primary and metastatic brain tumors. Dr. Attenello utilizes multiple surgical techniques to preserve neurologic function, including minimally invasive subcortical surgery and laser interstitial thermal therapy. He has received prestigious awards including the Harvey Cushing Neurosurgery Award and the Ronald L. Bittner National Neuro-oncology Research Award. Dr. Attenello completed his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University and a combined BS/MS in Molecular Biochemistry from Yale University. His training includes a neurosurgical residency at the University of Southern California and a postdoctoral fellowship investigating tumor genetics at the University of California, San Francisco. As a prolific researcher, he has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and contributed book chapters, focusing primarily on glioblastoma and neural stem cells. Dr. Attenello is also active on the editorial boards of major neurosurgery journals and serves as a principal investigator in his laboratory, which explores Glioma chemoresistance and factors contributing to improved patient outcomes. His work has significant implications for the treatment and management of patients with neurologic diseases, including those related to medical trainee burnout.
