Biography

Dr. Flavia Q. Pirih is a Professor and holds the Tarrson Family Endowed Chair in Periodontics at UCLA School of Dentistry, where she chairs the Division of Regenerative and Reconstructive Sciences. She received her D.D.S. from Universidade Federal do Paraná, Brazil, followed by a Ph.D. in Oral Biology from UCLA. Additionally, she completed a master's degree and residency certification in Periodontics at the University of Michigan, where she also served as a postdoctoral fellow. In 2009, she became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Pirih has directed the Pre-doctoral Program in Periodontics for over a decade and provides comprehensive surgical and implant services at UCLA's Periodontics Implant Surgery Faculty Practice. Her research focuses on understanding the clinical aspects of periodontitis and peri-implantitis, with an ultimate goal of developing strategies to prevent and treat these conditions, utilizing translational research to study genetic factors in patient susceptibility. She has received numerous awards for her teaching and research contributions, including recognition from the American Academy of Periodontology and the American Society for Bone Mineral Research.
