Christina Cuomo is a Viatris Professor of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at Brown University. Her research focuses on human fungal pathogens, which pose a major public health threat due to their substantial disease burden and the rising concern of antifungal resistance. The long-term goal of her laboratory is to identify mechanisms of virulence and drug resistance to inform treatment strategies. Utilizing genomic approaches, her team studies the evolution of human fungal pathogens like Cryptococcus neoformans and Candida auris. These studies include genome-wide association analyses to identify genetic factors linked to virulence and resistance. The lab is also developing innovative diagnostic methods to facilitate the rapid identification of fungal infections, particularly in clinical settings.
