Michael C. Ferris is the John P. Morgridge Chair and Jacques-Louis Lions Professor at the University of Wisconsin, specializing in Computer Sciences and affiliated with the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Systems Engineering. He serves as the Director of Hub Central at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. Ferris's research focuses on developing algorithmic interfaces for large-scale problems in mathematical programming, working extensively with general-purpose software such as GAMS and AMPL, and modeling languages. His contributions include optimization applications in areas such as cancer treatment planning, energy modeling, economic policy, environmental engineering, and video-on-demand data delivery. He is a fellow of SIAM and INFORMS and has received numerous accolades including the Beale-Orchard-Hays prize from the Mathematical Programming Society and the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award. Ferris is also a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and contributes to several editorial boards, including the INFORMS Journal on Computing and Optimization Methods and Software.
