Dr. Song Tan

Biography

Song Tan is the Verne M. Willaman Professor of Molecular Biology at Penn State University. He holds an undergraduate degree in physics from Cornell University and completed his PhD at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology as a Marshall Scholar. After postdoctoral training at ETH-Zürich, Tan joined the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology faculty at Penn State in 1998. His research focuses on the interaction of chromatin enzymes with nucleosome substrates, employing biochemical and structural methods. He was named a Pew Scholar in Biomedical Sciences in 2001 and has received various honors, including the Tershak Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award and the Faculty Scholar Medal. His laboratory's work aids in understanding gene regulation mechanisms fundamental to cellular functions and cancer development, with numerous publications in renowned journals. Tan's innovative studies have spherical implications for future therapeutic strategies in cancer and related diseases.
