Dr. Anshul Kundaje

Associate Professor

Biography

Anshul Kundaje is an Associate Professor at Stanford University in the Departments of Genetics and Computer Science. His research focuses on developing machine learning models to understand gene regulation and the genetic molecular basis of human diseases. The Kundaje lab is known for pioneering deep learning models and frameworks that help decode the functional language of DNA, RNA, and proteins. He played a significant role in large genomics consortia, including the ENCODE Project and the Roadmap Epigenomics Project. Anshul has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the NIH Director's New Innovator Award and the HUGO Chen Award for Excellence. He is actively involved in advising various genomic research committees and editorial boards. His team aims to advance the understanding of genetic variation in relation to complex diseases by leveraging large biobanks and genome sequencing projects. Anshul is dedicated to training the next generation of computational biologists and has successfully mentored many students and postdoctoral researchers.
