Biography

Lawrence Lessig is the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership at Harvard Law School. Before returning to Harvard, he taught at Stanford Law School and founded the Center for Internet and Society at the University of Chicago. He clerked for Judge Richard Posner on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and for Justice Antonin Scalia on the United States Supreme Court. Lessig is a founder of Equal Citizens and a founding board member of Creative Commons. He serves on the Scientific Board of the AXA Research Fund and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as well as the American Philosophical Society. He has received numerous awards, including the Webby, the Free Software Foundation’s Freedom Award, the Scientific American 50 Award, and the Fastcase 50 Award. Lessig's scholarly work addresses the intersection of law and technology, focusing particularly on “institutional corruption” and its impact on democracy. He has authored several books that analyze and critique political and legal issues in the context of the Internet and public trust.
