Dr. Marc Poulin

Biography

Marc Poulin is a Professor in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, specializing in Physiology and Pharmacology and Clinical Neurosciences. He holds the Brenda Strafford Foundation Chair in Alzheimer's Research and is a full member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and Libin Cardiovascular Institute. Dr. Poulin's educational background includes a D.Phil in Human Cerebrovascular Physiology from the University of Oxford and a Ph.D. in Respiratory Physiology from the University of Western Ontario. His research focuses on cerebrovascular regulation, sleep, and high-altitude physiology, employing advanced techniques such as transcranial Doppler ultrasound and neuroimaging. Dr. Poulin has supervised over 200 trainees, emphasizing equity and diversity within his research group. His work has led to significant publications and a focus on how exercise can prevent cognitive decline in older adults. Dr. Poulin is also involved in initiatives aimed at recruiting Indigenous trainees for interdisciplinary training programs.
