Larry Curtis is a Lecturer in Real Estate at Harvard Graduate School of Design. He has over 35 years of experience in real estate development and acquisition, leading activities that have helped expand his company from 3,000 to over 100,000 units across 22 states in the District of Columbia. His primary focus is on the creation of affordable housing and historic rehabilitation developments. He has held significant leadership positions, including serving on the Executive Committee of the National Multi-Housing Council, and was the past president of the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association. He also served nine years on the Board of Trustees for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, holding the title of Trustee Emeritus. Currently, he is a Director at Citizens Housing Planning Association (CHAPA) and has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Worcester Art Museum. Notably, he was the chairman of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board in 2006 and has received various awards, including the Paul E. Tsongas Award from Preservation Massachusetts. Mr. Curtis co-founded New Lease, a non-profit in Boston that acts as a clearinghouse for affordable housing units for families in state-funded shelters and motels throughout Massachusetts. He holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from Cooper Union and a master's degree in architecture and urban design from Harvard Graduate School of Design, regularly participating in classes focused on planning, design, and affordable housing development. He is a licensed architect in Massachusetts (NCARB).
