Biography

Karan Girotra is the Charles H. Dyson Family Professor of Management at Cornell Tech and the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. His research, teaching, consulting, and public engagement focus on helping businesses and society realize the promise of artificial intelligence (AI). Girotra's recent work studies how AI can automate and augment cognitive work within organizations to radically improve individual, team, and operational productivity, while enabling disruptive business models and shifting economic power. He collaborates with organizations to identify opportunities and develop the necessary capabilities for scaling these opportunities. Previously, his research examined new business models, economic institutions, and their influence on reducing carbon emissions, improving urban living, and managing global supply chains. His research contributions have been recognized through multiple paper awards, and he received the prestigious Wickham Skinner Early Career Research Award. Girotra is the author of the best-selling book “The Risk Driven Business Model” and has won numerous teaching awards for his courses on entrepreneurship and new business models. He has also led executive education programs for leading organizations such as Moody’s, Microsoft, Samsung, and Amazon. As a founding faculty member of Cornell Tech, he is instrumental in leading research on AI and business transformation, alongside flagship studio-based education programs and executive education offerings. His educational background includes a doctorate from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
