Thomas K. Gaylord received a B.S. in Physics and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla, followed by a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Rice University. He joined Georgia Tech in 1972, where he has been instrumental in the founding and development of optics educational research programs within the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His work includes the development of courses in Optical Engineering, Integrated Optics, Modulation, Diffractive Crystal Optics, and Optoelectronics, as well as establishing optics research programs and creating research instructional laboratory facilities. Dr. Gaylord is the author of over 300 technical journal publications and holds 25 patents in areas such as optics, optoelectronics, and semiconductor devices.
