Dr. Clara Peek

Assistant Professor

Biography

Clara B Peek, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Her research focuses on the physiological impact of circadian rhythms on nutrient-responsive regulatory pathways and oxygen-sensing transcriptional networks. She has identified a significant connection between skeletal muscle clocks and the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) pathway, which regulates glucose metabolism under hypoxic conditions. Peek aims to understand the interplay between hypoxic and circadian transcriptional pathways, particularly in relation to metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and vascular ischemia. She has contributed extensively to the understanding of circadian clock disruption and its association with various pathologies, including metabolic diseases and cancer. Her work has been recognized in numerous publications, where she explores the mechanisms through which circadian clocks influence muscle repair and metabolic responses. Peek's involvement extends beyond her research, as she serves on editorial boards and participates in professional societies, advocating for advancements in skeletal muscle biology and metabolic research.
