Greg Morrisett is the Dean of Cornell Tech, Cornell University’s state-of-the-art campus in New York City that focuses on developing leaders in technology for the AI era through foundational applied research, graduate education, and new ventures. Since taking on the role in 2019, Morrisett has been responsible for the academic quality and direction of the degree programs and has led efforts to recruit faculty, researchers, and students from around the world. Under his leadership, the campus has seen significant expansion, with the number of both Cornell Tech students and full-time faculty more than doubling, in addition to the opening of a new hotel and conference center in 2021, which brought the total campus buildings to five. By 2024, Cornell Tech celebrated the launch of its 100th startup through its startup programs, surpassing $1 billion in philanthropic support. Morrisett has led initiatives to engage industry partners and early-stage investors, enhancing Cornell Tech’s contribution to New York City’s innovation economy, which has an annual reported impact of over $768 million. Before joining Cornell Tech, he served as the Dean of the Computing and Information Science department at Cornell University from 2015 to 2019, and previously held the Allen B. Cutting Chair in Computer Science at Harvard University. Morrisett’s research emphasizes programming language technology and building secure, reliable, high-performance software systems. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and the IBM Faculty Fellowship. Currently, he is a member of the A.M. Turing Award Committee for the Association for Computing Machinery and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Richmond in 2023.
