Laura Lackner is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Biosciences at Northwestern University. She obtained her Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 2005. Dr. Lackner's research focuses on the spatial dynamic organization of cells, particularly the positioning and contact of organelles. Her lab aims to understand the mechanisms through which cells position mitochondria and regulate mitochondrial contacts, utilizing a combination of cell biological, genetic, and biochemical approaches. Over her academic career, she has published numerous articles on the multifunctional nature of mitochondria and their dynamic organization, contributing significantly to cell biology. Some of her notable publications include work on mitochondrial tethering and the integration of mitochondrial and nuclear positioning pathways. Through her research, she has provided insights into the critical roles organelle contacts play in a wide variety of cellular functions.
