Stephanie DeWitte-Orr is a Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at Wilfrid Laurier University. She holds an HBSc and a PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Waterloo. With a focus on innate immunology, virology, and cell biology, her research investigates the innate antiviral immune response in animals, specifically through the production and detection of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) during viral infections. DeWitte-Orr employs advanced techniques in cell biology and molecular biology to explore immune responses to viruses, aiming to develop novel therapeutics, including antiviral drugs and vaccine adjuvants. She has received various accolades, including the University Research Professor Award and the Early Career Researcher Award from Wilfrid Laurier University. With a commitment to mentorship, DeWitte-Orr supports both undergraduate and graduate students in her research lab, allowing them to gain valuable experience in molecular biology and virology. Her publications contribute significantly to the academic community, showcasing her expertise in developing innovative approaches to combat viral infections and improve understanding of immune responses in aquatic vertebrates.
