Biography

Rodolfo Ruben Rosales received his Licenciado degree from the National University of Cordoba in 1973 and obtained his PhD from Caltech in 1977 under the supervision of Gerald B. Whitham. He then held a post-doctoral position at Caltech before becoming a lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Research Assistant Professor at the Courant Institute. Rosales joined the MIT faculty in the Department of Applied Mathematics in 1980. He has previously been a Sloan fellow and served as Chair of the Applied Mathematics Committee from 2002 to 2006. His research interests encompass fluid dynamics, nonlinear waves, numerical partial differential equations, and material sciences. Professor Rosales has made significant contributions to his field and continues to be recognized for his work in applied mathematics.
