Shunsaku Miyagi is a founding partner of PLACEMEDIA, an award-winning landscape urban design firm based in Tokyo, Japan. With over 35 years of experience, he has worked on projects ranging from small-scale housing complexes to large-scale urban redevelopment, always aiming to preserve and enhance the value of historic and natural environments. His highly acclaimed works often involve collaboration with renowned Japanese architects such as Yoshio Taniguchi and Kengo Kuma, contributing significantly to the recognition of landscape architects in Japan. Academically, Miyagi is a Visiting Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he plans to launch an option studio focused on climate adaptation in Fall 2024. He holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard University and a PhD in Urban Design Studies from Kyoto University. His extensive teaching experience includes positions as Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at Chiba University and Professor of Urban Design at the University of Tokyo.
