Biography

Jonathan M. Karpoff is the Washington Mutual Endowed Chair at the Foster School of Business, University of Washington, where he has been a faculty member since 1983. He holds a PhD and an MA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a BA from the University of Alaska. His research interests lie in business valuation, corporate finance, corporate governance, and corporate crime punishment. Karpoff has received several teaching excellence awards, recognizing his contributions to the UW Executive MBA program. Additionally, he has been involved in various editorial roles, including Associate Editor for the Journal of Finance and the Journal of Financial Quantitative Analysis. Throughout his career, he has also received numerous awards for his scholarly contributions, including the William F. Sharpe Award for his work in financial research. Karpoff has been a keynote speaker at several prestigious conferences and is a recognized thought leader in corporate governance and financial misconduct. He actively engages in mentoring and other academic service roles, including Chair of the Society for Financial Studies Council.
