Michael Emmons is a Lecturer at the University of Delaware and Assistant Director of the Center for Historic Architecture and Design (CHAD). His research focuses on historic preservation projects, including nomination packages for the National Register of Historic Places and consultations for cultural resource surveys. He teaches core courses in the Historic Preservation program at the Biden School of Public Policy & Administration. Emmons specializes in nineteenth-century U.S. cultural history, with a dissertation on "Patterns of Early American Graffiti," which examines historical graffiti in the northeastern United States from 1700 to 1870. He aims to identify patterns and evaluate the significance of graffiti in architectural studies. Emmons has founded the Early American Graffiti Project, a crowd-sourced database of historical graffiti in North America. He actively participates in national and international conferences and serves as a preservation advocate for threatened historic resources. His background also includes experience in real estate, specializing in historic property sales, and work with various public history organizations.
