Geoff Horsman is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Science at Wilfrid Laurier University. He earned his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of British Columbia in 2008 and holds an MSc in Chemistry from McGill University awarded in 2002. Prior to his current role, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Pharmacy, University of Wisconsin-Madison (2008-2011). His primary research focuses on how microorganisms synthesize small molecule natural products, including antibiotics, addressing the growing challenge of antibiotic resistance. His work investigates the rich chemical diversity found in nature, exploring novel biosynthetic pathways and the development of stereo- and regioselective enzymes that can enable environmentally friendly industrial chemical syntheses. Horsman is a recipient of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Postdoctoral Fellowship Award (2008-2010) and is actively seeking trainees with a keen interest in the chemistry-biology interface for graduate and postdoctoral positions. He encourages motivated individuals to apply with a cover letter and CV.
