Heather Daly is an Assistant Professor specializing in Twentieth Century Native American history at the University of California, San Diego. She earned her Ph.D. in History from UCLA and is a member of the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel. Professor Daly has received several prestigious awards, including the 2023 UC San Diego Barbara & Paul Saltman Distinguished Teaching Award. Her research focuses on the political resistance movements of tribal nations that emerged following the implementation of the Indian Reorganization Act and the complexities of federal Indian policies, particularly regarding water rights in California. Daly is also involved with the Scripps Institute of Oceanography on a project titled 'San Diego Seafood,' which examines indigenous food practices in the La Jolla region. Additionally, she is developing the Indigenous Food Sovereignty Lab at UC San Diego. Her teaching interests include Indigenous Approaches to Climate Change, Environmental Law, and Native American Constitutional Law, reflecting her commitment to integrating Indigenous perspectives in academic discourse.
