Biography

Alex Dimakis is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in 2008 and holds a Diploma degree from the National Technical University of Athens. With a prolific academic output of over 150 papers, Dimakis has been recognized with several accolades, including the James Massey Award, the NSF Career Award, the Google Research Award, and the UC Berkeley Eli Jury Dissertation Award. His expertise has led him to serve as an Associate Editor for various journals and as an Area Chair for major Machine Learning conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, and AAAI. He also chaired the Technical Committee for MLSys 2021. As an IEEE Fellow, he has made significant contributions to distributed coding and learning. His research interests encompass Generative AI, Information Theory, and Machine Learning.
