Biography

H. W. Perry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Government at the University of Texas at Austin, and he has further affiliations with the School of Law. His expertise lies in constitutional public law, focusing on topics such as the U.S. Supreme Court, constitutional interpretation, class actions, and free speech. Perry is known for his award-winning book, 'Deciding to Decide: Agenda Setting in the United States Supreme Court,' published by Harvard in 1991. He is also a co-author of 'Civil Liberties and the Constitution' (8th edition, forthcoming). His recent works include publications like 'Access to Justice: Procedure, Polity, Politics' and 'Constitutional Faith, Constitutional Redemption.' Perry participates in interdisciplinary studies, particularly considering the intersection of law and politics, and is currently researching decision-making processes within the U.S. Department of Justice. His contributions to the field have been recognized with several awards, including the UT System Outstanding Teaching Award in 2015 and the C. Herman Pritchett Award from the American Political Science Association.
