Biography

Roy L. Brooks is a Warren Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of San Diego School of Law. He earned his JD from Yale Law School and has been a prominent figure in legal education since joining the faculty in 1979. A former editor of the Yale Law Journal, Brooks has an extensive background in corporate law, having practiced at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York City. His research spans various domains, including civil rights, employment discrimination, and international human rights, and he has authored over 20 books along with numerous articles in legal journals. Among his notable works are 'Racial Glass Ceiling: Subordination in American Law Culture' and 'Diversity Judgments: Democratizing Judicial Legitimacy'. Awarded the Thorsnes Prize for Outstanding Legal Scholarship multiple times, Brooks has received significant recognition including the Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Award. He teaches courses in Jurisprudence, Civil Rights Theory, and International Human Rights, providing critical insights into legal theory and practice.
