Biography

Michele Guindani is a Professor in the Department of Statistics at the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine. He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from Università Bocconi in Milan, Italy, in 2005, under the supervision of Sonia Petrone and Alan E. Gelfand. Following his doctoral studies, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he worked with Peter Mueller and Gary L. Rosner. Guindani was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Mexico from 2007 to 2010 and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center from 2010 to 2016 before joining UCI in 2016. He is recognized for his contributions to biostatistics, data science, and machine learning, focusing on areas such as statistical decision-making under uncertainty, multiple comparison problems, and Bayesian modeling. Guindani is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and the International Society for Bayesian Analysis and has held various editorial positions including Associate Editor for Biometrics and Editor-in-Chief for Bayesian Analysis. He is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for doctoral students.
